What actually laparoscopy is?
Laparoscopy is an art of viewing the body cavities namely abdomen & thorax without actually opening it.
One enters these cavities through small puncture wounds called ports. The camera for inside viewing & the instruments for surgery are introduced through these ports which at the end of the operative procedure appear no more than minute scratches.

What procedures can be done laparoscopically?
If the surgeon is experienced and the laparoscopic instruments are state of the art as at ADVANCE SURGICARE any procedure which most surgeons do via open surgery can be easily accomplished by laparoscopic surgery.
Why use laparoscopic surgery?
For the following reasons:
Better cosmetic results, minute incisions.
Less post-operative pain, decreased need for narcotics.
No huge wounds.
No hernias & wound infection.
Shorter hospital stay.
Faster return to normal activity.
Better heart, lung & immune function after surgery.
No increase in the risk of complications in experienced hands.
Lower incidence of adhesions & obstruction post operatively.
Access to cavity areas not amenable to open surgery.
Better post-operative body image compared to conventional surgery.
Why do some surgeons still recommend open surgery?
For the simple reason that they lack training & expertise in the art of laparoscopic surgery or facilities of a proper laparoscopic theatre set-up which is quiet an expensive proposition is not available to all.
As experience suggests, many surgeons recommend the best operation they can do for their patients, but not the best operation which can be done for their patients
What special situations merit laparoscopic approach?
Yes, worth mentioning would be laparoscopic oncology i.e. resection surgery for cancer patients which are very frail and cannot afford huge incisions. Other one is surgery for morbidly obese (bariatric surgery) people for whom laparoscopy has come as a revolution for the simple reason, more fat, bigger an incision, deadlier the complications. With minimally invasive option one can avoid all these.
